Alpina B12 6.0 overview

The B12 6.0 E-KAT is the fastest Alpina ever to be based on the BMW E38 7-series and also features the largest and most powerful engine in its history. In order to achieve the healthy 430hp (DIN), the 6.0 litres engine is fitted with light Mahle aluminum pistons, reworked camshafts, intakes and exhaust, BOSCH Motronic M5.2.1 fuel injection and various other features. Torque in this V12 engine rises to 600 Nm, 500 of which are available at only 1700 rpm.

The E-KAT part of the nomenclature represents the exhaust systems with steel catalyst that greatly lowers emissions without having a large impact on performance. All this power is sent to the wheels (wrapped in 245/40ZR20 tyres up front and 275/35ZR20 out back) through the only available gearbox, the Alpina Switch-Tronic unit developed in conjunction with ZF.

Such elegant lines as the E38 BMW displays have not yet been matched in any other model. This Alpina boasts the huge oval quad-exhaust pipes which reveal its true capabilities. The yellow Movit brake kit is impressive especially inside the classic 20 inches Alpina alloys. The discrete Alpina front spoiler is the same colour as the rest of the car and there is no decor set or any model tags for the connaisseur's pleasure. A beast that gives other drivers sweaty hands when suddenly appearing in their rear-view mirror...

Top safety, active & passive

With its five meters of length this Alpina is one of the safest vehicles you can ride. Airbags are located across the entire cabin for the safety of both driver and passengers. Side and curtain head airbags protect front and rear riders from lateral collisions as well.

During moderate driving this V12 hides behind a reluctant soft background purring; why don't they let me free?. At a higher tempo the sound converts to a remote thundering, while still keeping silent like the car in general.

At kick-down the Alpina transforms into a road beast. In a split of a second while being squeezed back into the seat the transmission gears down, and as pressing the wrong button on the radio, the Alpina starts speaking another language: a determined and intense growl penetrates into one's ears.

The performance figures of this 5980cm³ monster speak for themselves: 430hp, 600nm, 0-100km/h in 5.9s, top speed +300km/h, 0-1000m in 23.5s, the standing kilometer being faster than a Ferrari F355!

Faster cars exist, but no other two tonnes limousine matches those performance figures. The power of this Alpina is really noticed at high speeds, e.g. taking less than two seconds to accelerate from 180 to 200km/h.

Even at low revolutions and highest gear an impressive force is delivered, pulling like a modern diesel engine.
